Today’s the Day!
I’ve found most people struggle to know how to connect with God, so I created a tool to take the first step down the path of peace of mind and heart.
Today I release 30 Steps Toward God. This book features 30 daily devotions – short segments of the bible, my thoughts on that scripture and a small prayer. All of it designed to point your heart toward God.
Today’s post is a sample from that book.
The e-book is free! Simply request your copy HERE.

My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.
He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just
and protects those who are faithful to him. Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair,
and you will find the right way to go.For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will fill you with joy.
Wisdom Then and Now.
As a teenager, I read the book of Proverbs a lot. Most months I would read the entire book through (one chapter each day). As I read through it now, a flood of memories come back to me.
I remember the emotions and feelings I had reading these chapters years ago. I remember the insight I felt first encountering Proverbs. I remember wanting to be a man of wisdom. I wanted to walk with integrity. I wanted to understand what was just and fair.
Just as the writer said, it set me down a path. Through this path I found a measure of wisdom. Reading this passage of Proverbs now, I see through a different lens. Now I see closer, from the view of the writer – a father to his son.
Unlocking Doors
When I seek wisdom with all my heart, soul and mind (vss 2-4), I gain understanding and joy (vss 9-10). In my life, I’ve gained a certain degree of understanding. This understanding has lead to joy. The combination of knowledge and joy has done one more thing for me.
It’s unlocked doors.

If you deeply understand in a certain aspect of your world (business, education, finance, children, Bible, etc) you become joyful. That joy is attractive to people around you because everyone likes to be around people who are both intelligent and happy.
People want to be with you. They want you on their team. You add value to them and their operation. People want you in their network. Your value is worth tapping into.
It doesn’t end there.
Opening Windows to the Future.
Looking back at who I was as a teenage young man, I see how seeking wisdom gave me sneak peeks into the future. It was like someone pulled back the curtains to the window for a moment. I could see who I might be if I walked down one path over another.
As Kenny Bania says to Jerry on Seinfeld, “That’s gold, Jerry. Gold!” Honestly, it’s worth more than gold.
There were times when I didn’t see through the window. I moved forward without wisdom. I regret those moments. I’m past them, but for years I wished to take them back.
Seek wisdom. It is the key to unlocking doors and opening windows to your future.
Prayer:
God, I want wisdom in my life. I want to seek it like gold, silver and precious jewels. I know only your wisdom unlocks doors and opens windows to my future. Please direct me and my steps as I search and seek for your wisdom.
