Well, yesterday was my birthday. The big number 3 5! I had sent Kia a couple of ideas for my birthday (not going to mention the others for fear of jinxing myself – haven’t gotten most of the presents yet). Well, she last minute, came through on one of them. She took me to the Coldplay concert here in KC at the brand new Sprint Center. It was so cool. I would show you a couple of pictures, but my phone sucks and I haven’t taken the iphone plunge yet – more on that in a different post.
We were driving home after the concert talking about parts that we like best, etc. We went back and forth on a couple of things, and then Kia said something that really struck me. She said “I loved the start of the concert, the lights on all the people, them standing, cheering, all looking one way in expectation – it reminds me of heaven.”
Wow, that really made me think. I had never thought about a really cool concert experience being referred to as heaven. But it really is true, I think. There are probably a thousand thoughts of what heaven is. Streets of Gold…cherubs on clouds…a quiet mountain stream…whatever your idea may be and a thousand more. I imagine that all of them are true to a certain extent. But the image of a really cool band, lots of energy, and a host of people looking toward one figure – Christ – is striking.
I know I don’t much if ever, write on spiritual matters, but I believe. I believe in God, His Son the Christ, the virgin birth, the death and resurrection of Jesus, we need his saving grace, that this life is just the tip of what reality is. You don’t expect to go to a rock concert (unless it’s a Christian rock concert) and be reminded of heaven or deep spiritual truths, but I did. I’m glad I did.
Feel free to comment on this…thanks for listening.
