2012 Word of the Year.
I’m in the middle of my 2nd word of the year project. Last year I chose one word to explore, strive for, learn about. Last year I chose Freedom. You can read my thoughts on 2011’s word here.
This year, I chose the word RISK. I’ve taken a few risks and written about them in these posts:
Kia and I are in the midst of exploring brand new risks that I can’t fully talk about now. I can tell you I’m continuing to learn.
Love is too big a RISK.
This week, I was reminded of another lesson on RISK. My friend Ron Dawson shared an interview he did for his Crossing the 180 podcast. Ron interviewed filmmaker Eliot Rausch. Rausch directed the short documentary “Last Minutes with Oden” which won the Best of Show award at the 1st Vimeo Film Festival 2 years ago.
I suggest listening to the podcast because you’ll get the full back story of Oden and Oden’s owner/best friend Jason Wood. If you don’t have time for the entire podcast, watch the short film “Last Minutes with Oden” below.
It’s a picture of what a RISK love is. Whether it’s a beloved pet, spouse, child, or passion love is a RISK. Risk comes in allowing your love to breath and live on its own. Risk comes in an eventual death. Risk brings with it hurt and pain.
Without the RISK though, there wouldn’t have been growth, health, healing, relationship…love.

PS – I found this video because I’m always looking for inspiration for my Word of the Year.
