Facebook changing the rules…again.
It’s very possible you did not follow a recent change on Facebook if you don’t rely on a Facebook “fan page” for your business. Facebook changed their internal algorithm, so less fans see a fan page’s content unless it’s a paid advertisement (or the page uses paid advertising).
When the rules change people complain, and this was no different. Many people believe Facebook owes it to them to allow them to connect with their clients and potential clients for free. So, historically, there is lots of complaining when Facebook changes anything. We believe it’s our right to have a page the way we want it to be. Facebook shouldn’t be tinkering with what is already working.
Stop whining people!
Honestly, I don’t care that much. A couple of years ago, this would have been a big deal to me. Facebook and social media in general were a big part of what I was doing, and where I was going in my life. My life has taken a big turn.
However, I do try to keep up with that world, because I still find it of interest. I can see myself being upset with a twist causing my business to have to pay for what at one time was free.
This week, I read a blog post by Justin Wise that shook me out of that line of thinking. He basically states the obvious. Facebook belongs to Facebook, and Facebook can do with Facebook what Facebook wants. If I want to be a part of Facebook then I have to play by Facebook’s rules.
Facebook owes me nothing. It was my choice to use their product which they’ve offered to me for free for several years.
We are owed nothing.
Which brings me to my point…that has nothing to do with Facebook. As members of a hyper-civilized Western society, we live in one of the most entitled time periods in history. Life is easier for us than it ever has been. One of our biggest concerns for the day is what to wear to work/school.
We are blessed.
This luxury has a downside. We believe we deserve the blessings we are accustomed to. We deserve (fast) internet. We deserve inexpensive gas. We deserve a newer phone. We deserve a bigger television. We deserve faster food. We deserve a nicer car.
Though we are blessed, don’t forget, we are owed nothing.
Cars, Trucks and things that go.
Last week, I was reminded of this truth. I received the news my car (purchased only 9 months ago) needs a new engine. The cost to do it right is more than the car is worth. My mechanic tells me it’s a common issue with the engines in my car. The kicker is I researched for weeks before buying it and read nothing about this problem.
It’s a kick in the gut, yet I’m owed nothing. I don’t deserve better. I’m not blessed any less. God is still with me.
Owed nothing, but promised provision.
I’m owed nothing by God, the world, life, the cosmos…you fill in the blank, but I believe as a Christian God will provide. Though my car is crapping out on me, I’m praying God will provide. I’m praying He’ll send the right car at the right price. I’m praying God will provide the exact finances we need.
I’m owed nothing by God, but I do believe He will provide. I believe that’s His promise.
