Welcome back to 1 Samuel! Every Wednesday and Friday, I post my thoughts from one chapter of 1 Samuel – today is chapter 10. Read 1 Samuel 10 for yourself, take notes, and compare what you hear from God with what I see and hear. God’s Word is alive and active. We don’t need to see the same things!
If you’ve missed any of the past posts of earlier chapters, you can find them all HERE.
If you are new to reading the Bible, I encourage you to read my post, How to Understand the Bible. It gives you 5 tools to read the Bible, so you understand it. You can also go back and read through the story of Joseph and his family and all of Luke with me.
So let’s go ahead and jump in!
The MOST Powerful Act.
Think about God’s powerful acts in the Bible. What one thing would you point to? I might include a healing, Lazarus raised from the dead, an army miraculously destroyed, or maybe a seemingly natural act, like an earthquake, sent by God.
But the most powerful act God can perform may have happened in this chapter of 1 Samuel. Read this line from that chapter (emphasis mine):
“At that time the Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them. You will be changed into a different person.”
1 Samuel 10:6
Then the text goes on to say (again, emphasis mine):
“As Saul turned and started to leave, God gave him a new heart, and all Samuel’s signs were fulfilled that day.”
1 Samuel 10:9 NLT
Heart Change: The MOST Powerful Act.
God changed Saul that day by giving him a new heart. We don’t know exactly what that means because we only see Saul, in depth, after this heart change, but it was instrumental in Saul becoming the man who would lead the people of Israel.
The most powerful thing God can do? Change our hearts – the deepest, most innermost part of our being.
When does God do this? When He is preparing us for a new or greater purpose. Many times this heart change is lead by pain, or heartache because they help position us in a place where we are ready for the change God has for us. But not always – there is no sign of heartache in Saul.
If you’ve never experienced this power of God in your life – ask for it! God is a good Father who loves to give good gifts. He is ready for you to to have a new and greater purpose.
