I found this video on Scott Bourne’s new site CarLoves.com. It’s kind of long, but totally worth watching the whole clip. This guy takes his mother on a ride around a rally track, and she’s pretty expressive about how she feels during the trip.
Other than the pure enjoyment of watching his mother squirm (and yell, scream and nearly cry), I think I loved watching the sons eyes. The fact that the rest of his face was covered made it that much more enjoyable for me.
There was a sense of real joy there.
The video may be most enjoyed as a son or a mother. It’s indicative of the bond that son has with his mother. As a son there is a desire to keep your mother safe, but at the same time find joy in pushing her to the edge. As a mother it’s the opposite. There is a desire to see your son pushed to the edge, but at the same time staying safe.
A subtle, but still real difference.
If you are a son, go hug your mom.
If you’re a mom, go help your son jump a ramp with his bike. 🙂
How do you and your mother/son connect?
