Twitter has changed the world
In June, Kia and I attended the Storyline conference hosted by Donald Miller. Don did most of the talking, but did invite a couple of people to be interviewed during the day. One of these people was Ian Cron. Ian wrote an interesting book (everyone at the conference received a free copy) called Jesus, My Father, The CIA, and Me: A Memoir. . . of Sorts. Honestly the title says what you need to know about the book (before reading it)…
Ian also has a blog that he updates at least a couple of times a week. I came across a post he wrote a month or so ago, called “Why everyone should write a 6 word memoir.” The concept was not his, but came from Smith Magazine (who has published a book of some of the best 6 word memoirs).
The thought of creating a memoir in 6 words or a bio in 7 words is a concept that probably wouldn’t exist if we didn’t have Twitter, which forces you to write something (hopefully meaningful) in 140 characters.
Less can mean more
I like it. Trying to reduce your life, bio, or even a portion of who you are into 6 words or 140 characters forces you to think. It makes you really consider what and who you are.
Here are a few of my recent favorite 6 word memoir’s from Smith.
Three daughters. Boobs, bikinis, boys. Brains?
Passed out during my 15 minutes.
Saddled up high-horse. Went over cliff.
Could this be my ever after?
Six words is sometimes a mouthful.
One thing I like about Smith’s is they break up the memoir’s in to categories. Life. Love. Mom. Dad. Work. etc, etc, etc.
Challenge for the week:
Create your own 6 word memoir about your business/life. If you’re really brave, share it right here on The Collective. Here is mine on The Collective.
Built it. Figuring it out. Moving…
Expect to see more on 6 word memoir’s for future submission contests…
Be brave – share your 6 word memoir about your business or life here.
