All is calm…
My favorite Christmas carol is Silent Night. The first 2 lines read:
Silent night, Holy night
All is calm, all is bright
All is calm…what a picture!
I don’t know about you, but during the Christmas season there aren’t many calm moments. It’s part of the power of the hymn – an image of perfect peace (even if just for a moment) in a chaotic world.
Be still.
For me, it’s a reminder to be still.
Whether it’s a moment, 10 minutes or an hour, I need to slow down and to be still.
Most likely, this past month you’ve run from this activity to that one. You’ve driven from this store to the other. You’ve watched your favorite holiday movies. You’ve listened to the best of the season’s music (’til your ears have bled). Your paper cuts have paper cuts to prove you’ve seen holiday card sent your way.
Have you enjoyed it?
It’s not too late (whether you’re reading this on Christmas or not). You still have the opportunity to stop, reflect and enjoy this season.
Be careful!
The temptation is to fill moments of silence and stillness with something. In my life, I look at my phone to fill the silent space.
Don’t do it. Fight the urge to fill the space with something…anything. Just be still and enjoy the moment.
Be still, and know that I am God! -Psalm 46:10a
Oh, in case you haven’t heard it yet today…Merry Christmas!
