Save me so I can praise you publicly at Jerusalem’s gates, so I can rejoice that you have rescued me. -Psalm 9:14
January 2011
On January 18, 2011 I read the above scripture verse from Psalms. I don’t remember reading it at all, but I know I did because I wrote this note/prayer:
Lord lead me to a new place that I can bring you honor in the public place. Let me tell people of your faithfulness and goodness in my life.
I immediately followed up that note with this one:
Jerusalem’s gates I’m guessing was one of the most public places possible.
What does this mean for me? Where and how do I share my testimony of God’s goodness in my life?
Lord, show me.
I don’t remember writing that either.
January 2014
Tuesday, I read this scripture again (not remembering the above notes I wrote). I clicked to write this new note:
I can be selfish for my salvation. I should be selfish in asking for my needs.
Jesus, show up! Save me!
When I wrote the new note, I stumbled on the old notes. I was amazed. First, that scripture of the entire chapter jumped at me again…3 years later. God’s mercy and grace is new every morning, even when it’s not new at all.
Second, God is answering my prayers. He’s hearing my thoughts. He’s taking care of my needs.
Third, God is giving me a platform…a public platform to share my testimony of His grace.
Journaling God’s mercies.
It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. -Lamentations 3:22-23
God’s mercy and grace is new and available to us each day, but only if we look for it. I just finished a book by Andy Stanley called Visioneering. He ends the book with a plea for the readers to journal. He asks us to journal so we will remember.
It’s so easy to forget. I forgot a note I made about a scripture that sincerely spoke to me only 3 years before. Had I not made that note, I definitely wouldn’t remember 5, 10, 20 years from now.
Had I not made that note, I wouldn’t have experienced…truly experienced the full mercy of God that day.
Are you experiencing the FULL mercies of God each day? If not, start by seeking. Seek through scripture. You will find Him. When you do, make note of it. You will be thankful later on.
