It’s gonna be quiet!
This will be my last post in the next week or so. We’re in the last stages of moving, with the final push on Thursday! I also have the privilege of preaching at the Cross Points Church Sunday service this week. All of this combined is putting some pressure on me.
Speaking of preaching…
We are doing a series on “Legacy: the decisions we make”. Thinking about this subject led me to the Hiding Truths post from a week or so ago.
It has also led me to think about redemption versus perfection. We live in a perfection world. Think of all the perfect things people want:
- House
- Car
- Job
- Family
- Body
- Marriage
- Kid(s)
I could have listed off another 10 things in a heartbeat. We all want perfection in one area or another…probably multiple areas.
What does God want?
As I read through the Bible, specifically the Old Testament, I see less about perfection and more about redemption. Dictionary.com’s 3rd definition of redemption is this –
to recover (something pledged or mortgaged) by payment or other satisfaction: to redeem a pawned watch.
God seems to acknowledge we won’t be perfect, so He uses our imperfections as a chance to recover us, our brokenness, our mistakes for His glory.
The story God is telling is one of redemption…recovering our past (and all it’s dirt) for His glory.
God & Your Past
Those thoughts lead to this one last big thought. Get ready, because it is huge. It really is.
If you grab ahold of this, it will change your life.
God isn’t afraid of your past.
Believe it. God is in the business of taking broken people to do His will to further His glory. The next person could be you.
God isn’t worried about perfect. He is worried about redemption…recovering your past for His glory.
