Why ATTACK?
A few months ago, I re-read the story of Noah and the Ark. It’s such a familiar story, most people could pretty accurately recite the story at a moment’s notice. Especially now that Noah has been made into a major motion picture, we know the basics.
Noah is chosen because of his righteousness to build a boat. He and his family alone will be saved from a catastrophic flood. Noah’s family gathers 2 of every animal (seven of some) onto the boat. 40 days and 40 nights of rain fall. The entire earth is flooded. Noah and his family alone are left.
Then they wait…and wait…and wait.
One year Noah and his family wait on that boat. Floating and waiting. Watching and waiting. Waiting.
Until the waiting is over.
Enter ATTACK.
As I read this passage again, I slowed down after reading this line –
Then God said to Noah, “Leave the boat, all of you—you and your wife, and your sons and their wives. -Genesis 8:15-16 (NLT)
Seems pretty simple. Get off the boat. I mean you’ve been waiting a year to get off this damned floating zoo. Right? Right, except there’s the vast unknown in front of you. Everything you know is gone. Everyone you know short of your family is dead. Only you and this boat of animals remain.
Maybe leaving the boat isn’t such a good idea. Maybe I’ll stay here another night. Another day. Another week. Another month. Another year.
Noah and his family didn’t stay another moment. They attacked life. They attacked fear.
Noah got off the boat.
Get off the boat.
I chose ATTACK as my 2015 Word of the Year, because I’m not going to stay in the boat. I’m going to move. I’m not going to stand still. I’m not going to wait. God’s telling to get off. I’m going to ATTACK 2015.
I want to ATTACK my writing. I want to ATTACK my job. I want to ATTACK my creativity. I want to ATTACK my family. I want to ATTACK my relationship with God.
I’m off the boat.
Ready to get off the boat too? Let me know by telling me your 2015 Word of the Year. What’s your Word?
