The Best Ever
Do a quick Google search on “All Time Greatest”, click though a couple of pages, and you’ll find articles on songs, movies, toys, television shows, rappers and more. There is a list for everything out there. And the list is ranked.
All of us have an opinion, and all of us want to be high on the list of another person’s opinion. It’s why we make lists…and rank them.
In a word, it’s legacy.
Legacy is being the best ever on someone’s list.
Jerusalem is Legacy.
Everyone is on a spiritual journey. We fight to get through 4 milestones on our journey.
- Egypt: Slavery | Oppression
- Jordan: Crossing Over | Point of no Return
- Gilgal: New Beginning | Rolling Away
- Jerusalem: High Place | Legacy
This is the journey the Israelite people took over generations. Ultimately they struggled and fought to leave a lasting legacy. We too struggle through our journey, so we can leave legacy.
Legacy is the struggle to be the best ever on someone’s list.
Best Ever _______.
A man from our church recently passed away. His daughter is a young woman who was given a ton of potential, and so far has done a lot with it. He constantly and consistently would tell me of my role in her success. In his eyes, I was the best Children’s Pastor to walk the earth.
I left a legacy in his life.
I’ll be honest. I didn’t have much competition. They didn’t attend many (if any) other churches. I was the Children’s Pastor for a majority of her years in our kids ministry. It doesn’t get much easier to be the best, when you’re nearly the only.
I did the best I could, and to him my best mattered.
What are you struggling to be best at?
Your Struggle Matters
You may be fighting to get out of slavery and oppression. It matters because it’s the first step toward legacy.
You may be standing at the Jordan poised to step into, through and over. It matters because it’s a sign you’ve left the past behind. We can’t leave a legacy if we don’t leave the past.
You may be on the other side of the Jordan in Gilgal agonizing over the shame of your slavery. Allow your shame to be rolled away. We can’t fight if the chains of shame hold us down.
Struggle on! Jerusalem is ahead. The road is long. The altitude is high. The air is thin. It’s what you do to make the list.
It’s what you do to leave legacy.
