Day 3 – Genesis 39
Last month I read through the story of Joseph in the Bible (Genesis 37-50). Each day I was challenged to share what I learned. Here was my insight into Genesis 39.
Joseph in Captivity
The story moves back to Joseph (but don’t forget about Judah from day 2…he comes back soon enough). Joseph is enslaved by an Egyptian general, Potiphar. God remains with Joseph incaptivity, and God’s presence is the most important thing Joseph could have.
As a young man, Ibelieved God promised me success. I heard God, but I misunderstood what He wassaying. He promised me Himself – which leads to success. This is what Joseph islearning working for Potiphar.
“The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.” -Genesis 39:2
The beauty of thisapproach is all I need to worry about is carrying God’s presence with me andworking hard. God does the rest.
“Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did.” -Genesis 39:3
Life will not beperfect. Joseph is soon wrongfully accused and thrown into prison. Pain andhardship still come to Joseph even as he is working hard and carrying God’spresence with him. But as we’ll see, God’s presence does remain with Joseph…andsuccess is close behind.
Daily Blessing: Mayyou find success as you take God’s presence with you and work hard.
Daily Challenge:Today, focus on taking God’s presence everywhere you go – work, home, schoolevents, restaurants. Take note of what difference it makes.
