With a mix of fear and trembling and excitement and wonder, I launch my new blog.
Welcome.
Thank you for taking a look, checking-in and giving it a read.
Possibly, you have read another blog I created The Collective. I’m sure you’re wondering, “Why here and not there?” You might also be wondering, “What are you doing with that other site?”
Let me answer both of those questions.
1. Why AndyBondurant.com and not Photo-Collective.com?
About three years ago, I started on a journey…kind of a personal quest. The quest was to figure out who I was. It was an attempt to decide what I was going to be when I grow up (as my wife, Kia, would say).
That was the start of The Collective. I had dreams for the site as a business. Along the way, I figured out that I really enjoyed the process of writing. I found pleasure in sitting at a computer, transposing my thoughts and sending it out to the world (whoever that may be).
Fast forward a year…I knew the business of The Collective wasn’t going to work. It was a site for photographers, and at heart, though I love photographers (I’m married to one), I was not one. What was I going to do?
I wasn’t sure. I prayed. I thought. I waited.
Fast forward another few months…my friend David came knocking. He invited me to join him in his journey of transforming our declining church into a living, breathing, growing organization.
I said, “No.” I prayed. God said, “Yes.” I chose to agree with God. I jumped on board with David, and I haven’t looked back…kind of.
Let me explain…
In 2011, I attended the Storyline Conference hosted by Donald Miller. It is a 2 day seminar designed to help you define your purpose in life. It’s the Purpose Driven Life for a younger crowd.
During that conference Miller made a statement I’ll never forget. He said,
”Some of you here know you were born for something bigger. You are called to do something great. You’re sitting there thinking, ‘He’s talking about me.'”
It was a goose-bumps-down-the-back moment. It was me (to be clear, it wasn’t just me, but I was definitely included).
I am called to something greater, bigger, farther.
When I said yes to David (really God), I knew that writing wasn’t done. Writing is a part of the greater, bigger, farther. The question was, “Where is the platform for me to write from?”
Over the past year, it is so clear to me The Collective is not the platform I’m looking for. The photography world is not my greater, bigger, farther.
AndyBondurant.com is a way to more clearly write where God is taking me.
2. What is going to happen with The Collective?
I’m not sure. I’m done writing there. If you’re interested in taking over and jump starting it, let me know. Otherwise, I imagine it will slowly fade away.
New Begins Now
As I sit here and think, I’m getting excited. Where is this going to lead? What is God going to do? What will all this look like in a year, 2 years, 1o years?
Wherever it leads, come with me.
It’s gonna be fun!
