Day 7 – Genesis 43
Last month I read through the story of Joseph in the Bible (Genesis 37-50). Each day I was challenged to share what I learned. Here was my insight into Genesis 43.
The family in famine
“But the famine continued to ravage the land of Canaan.” Genesis 43:1
Joseph’s father, Jacob, finds his hand forced. The food they’ve purchased is running out, and the famine continues on. I can see Jacob asking, “Where is God in the middle of this tribulation?”
Maybe God is more in the middle of our trials than we give him credit for?
Did God cause the famine? I don’t know, but He certainly used it. He used it to squeeze Jacob into tough decisions, which lead to redemption, salvation, a future a million times larger than Jacob could see. God used it to literally change the world and course of history.
The trials you’re encountering today are most likely squeezing you into tough decisions. You get to choose one of two things: God is in the middle of this, or God has nothing to do with this at all. I choose to believe God is in the middle of my pain. The alternative is God doesn’t care.
Believe it or not, God’s aim is redemption, salvation and a future a million times larger than you can see. He could possibly use this challenge to change the world and the course of history…through you!
The brothers are squeezed back to meeting Joseph again. Terrified, they approach one of the managers under Joseph. His reply…
“Relax. Don’t be afraid. Your God…” Genesis 43:23
Relax. Don’t be afraid. Your God is in the middle of this trial.
Daily Blessing: God, today, I choose to see you in the middle of my pain. I choose to believe you are using this for redemption, salvation and future a million times better than I can see.
Daily Challenge: Reflect back on your life when you have a few moments (perhaps now). What are the results of the past trials in your life? How have things changed?
