I know this in my head, but I’m still learning in my heart how God operates outside of time and space. He speaks, and it is done. Yet for me (within time and space), times continues to pass. I still must wait.
Judah: A Road to Redemption
Shame is a cycle, and if it’s not broken, it will lead to destruction. But this is exactly what God specializes in…redemption. God sees more in Judah than he sees in himself, so God pursues Judah with an unlikely person – a prostitute who is actually his daughter-in-law.
From Nothing to Something
Close your eyes… No seriously, participate in this little action with me. You can’t close your eyes (and still read this) but imagine nothing. Okay, I know that’s hard, but as best you can imagine empty space, no creation, vast blankness. Now to this empty space, add a light (someplace, somewhere, somehow). Now add a […]
What to do with your dream?
The Impossible Dream Our culture celebrates big dreams. We are told to shoot for the moon, swing for the fences and climb tall mountains. We marvel at those who make it big – goals fulfilled. We encourage the ones who have stumbled along the way. I’m no different. In my last post, I shared my desire to […]
APEX: The Most Difficult Climb of My Life
Apex 2017 Over 20 years ago, I made one of my most rewarding and difficult hikes of my life – an active volcano. The (literal) pain came during the last push to the peak. The final several hundred yards was a sharp incline, covered in volcanic ash. Imagine hiking the steepest part of a mountain – in sand. I was literally on hands […]
Are You Winning?
The Lovable Losers It is playoff baseball time again. My Royals didn’t make the postseason, but I’m enjoying following the teams still in it. The Chicago Cubs clinched the last spot to face the Cleveland Indians. The Cubs won the series handily against the Los Angeles Dodgers, but early on it was not so sure. […]
Fig Leaves & Failure. Gold Medals & a Garden.
Gold Medals and a Garden A few weeks ago I attended a one-day leadership conference led by Craig Groschel and Andy Stanley – two mega-church pastors from the US. At one point, Stanley made this statement: “When you look at success from a birds-eye view, it’s easy to assume one or two great decisions paved the […]
As Nike Once Said…Just Do It.
July 8th I told you I was taking a month long break. Those 4 weeks quickly turned into 5 then 6 and now 8. I’m back, but can I let you in on a secret? I don’t want to be back. I haven’t lost my passion. I still care about you. I love to write. […]
Remember When Life Wasn’t Hard, but We Thought It Was?
Life Happens So Fast! Everyone experiences this. You endure a really difficult season of life. Years pass, and a realization hits – you had no idea what hard was. This was college for me. I thought I didn’t have time. I thought I didn’t have money. I thought I was under constant pressure. I thought […]
What’s the Worst That Can Happen?
What’s the Worst that Can Happen? I was standing with Kia in our kitchen. It was sometime in 2009. Things weren’t going so well for us financially. Our businesses were suffering. Our personal finances were just as bad – maybe worse. I was looking out the window. That window looked over a few acres of land attached […]
